Who is Homeward?
Specialist decorator and gilder Nicky Hancock founded Homeward in 2014.
Nicky graduated from East London University with a degree in Fine Art and spent the following 2 decades working as a painter and gilder in residential interiors in London. Here her interest in interiors and design developed and Nicky became an experienced specialist decorator known for using traditional techniques to create decorative paint finishes.
Extending her services to help clients develop colour schemes, upholstery and accessories, the idea of creating a collection of one off creative and stylish pieces of furniture and home ware began to bubble away. In need of studio space to restore the bespoke collection, Nicky relocated to her home county and settled in Leek, Staffordshire where Homeward was born.
Homeward has an eclectic style with an aim of making every piece personal and unique. The process begins at local auctions, antiques and markets where Nicky uses her eye for detail and design to find interesting pieces which go back to the studio to be carefully restored.
Committed to maintaining the heritage and quirks of vintage furniture each piece is restored with care and skill and incorporates many traditional techniques. Any work which can’t be carried out in the studio is outsourced to highly skilled local craftsman all within a 20 mile radius of Homeward’s Leek based studio.
Upholstery and fabric choice is often the most eye catching and striking part of the collection which is why Homeward is passionate about using high quality fabrics with creative designs that bring a modern twist to vintage pieces. Homeward’s favourite and most regular choices include Thorody, St Judes and Bute.
